THE WRITING LADDER PROGRAM
The writing program
teaches high school students to successfully pass the very demanding state high
school writing proficiency tests. The original purpose of the writing program
is to teach students to write effectively on a variety of subjects, either of
their own choosing, or as assigned in the classroom. In this integrated
learning program, the writing strand permits you to think about, and apply the
wisdom contained in the Proverbs and
Quotations Motivation Program.
THE WRITING LADDER APPROACH
The writing program consists of a writing ladder of
sequential lessons and writing assignments arranged from simple to complex.
Lessons range from writing a basic issue paragraph to researching and producing
an extended research paper on matters of current interest or controversy. The
program is effective for students of late elementary through senior high school.
The program is currently used in the developer’s own classroom to prepare
students to pass the quite demanding Michigan Educational Assessment Program
Tests for Writing. The assignments are carefully tested directions for
presentation to the student, with appropriate writing options for the student to
select from for each writing task. The program includes writing samples for
students to evaluate or emulate, rubrics for evaluation for either teacher or
student use, and instructions to use the writing program in an optional group
process in the classroom. |
